"Life With A Shiba, To Be or Not To Be"

So, You've Decided To Add A Shiba To Your Family.

Before you take the plunge, read on. Although this page is written in a humorous way, it is based on actual Shiba attitudes.

"Have you ever heard the penetrating screech of a parrot? Well, they learned that from Shibas.

Do you have the patience of a Saint? Shibas are very smart, but they have "selective" hearing ( especially when it comes to coming when called )

If you're the type of person that gets upset and yells at a pet when they do something wrong, a Shiba will push you over the edge. The more you raise your voice to them, the more they ignore you.

It is felt by some that the Shiba has never been fully domesticated, that they have maintained their wild ancestral behaviors. You'll understand this when they jump on the bed first thing in the morning to wake you up, and they present you with the slightly chewed present of a mouse.

Although not considered to be a "hyper" breed, Shibas are quite active. Puppies can leave the "Energizer Bunny" in the dust.

Shibas think everything is theirs, the couch, the bed, your favorite easy chair. They just allow you to use them. The trick is to make them think that the floor is the premium place to be. ( After several weeks of trying to prove this, you actually begin to believe it yourself. )

Shibas have great memories, and have a knack for getting even when you least expect it
